Mike Sparrow miniature silverware - newsletter

Mike Sparrow Silver. Newsletter issue 1. Date : 9 February 2009. Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, UK.

Some introductions

Hello and thanks for reading my very first newsletter, which is being sent to all my customers past and present around the world.

My name is Mike Sparrow, and I am a trained craftsman making high quality miniature silverware products which I sell worldwide by mail order through my website www.mikesparrowsilver.co.uk and at the various trade shows I attend throughout the year.

All my miniature silverware is made exactly to 1/12 scale and works much as the original. Vessels are hollow, lids lift off or are hinged, and wooden handles are carved out of ebony. All but the smallest bear the Sheffield assay office hallmark; the exceptions are the flatware cutlery, egg cups, napkin rings and nutcrackers. You can view my miniature silver dollshouse items via the gallery links of my website.

I'm very excited because this is my very first newsletter to all of my valued customers! However, if you do not wish to receive further newsletters, unsubscription details are always provided at the bottom of each email.

With each newsletter I will provide you with information relating to me and my miniature silverware. This might be about my work, new products, updates on my shows, or to tell you me a bit about myself. More likely it will be a bit of everything. I'm also interested in my customers' experiences, and would love to hear about how my miniature silverware is put to use. I will feature the best stories in later newsletters. Please send me anything you want to be considered. Let me know also if you want to read about my manufacturing process (that's just me in my workshop!), or more about my miniature silverware. For example, I would love to talk in detail about a specific piece of miniature silverware in each newsletter, with detailed photos and work-in-progress information. Perhaps you ahve a favourite piece. Please let me know what you think of this or any other ideas you might have.

About me, and where I live.

A little about me.

I am a trained silversmith by profession, having graduated from Art College (Medway Colege of Design) with a City & Guilds qualification in Silversmithing in 1980. I worked in the silversmithing / jewellery business for many years in Southend, Essex, and later in North Yorkshire as a jobbing silversmith & jeweller when I moved with my young family there in the late 1980's. I have lived here in Knaresborough ever since, and subsequently set up in business making Miniature Silverware in 1991.

I am a keen cycler, and love to keep fit. I live in a most wonderful place to do this and can cycle on the quiet country roads around Knaresborough and Yorkshire and beyond for hours on end. I enjoy walking, gardening, and socialising with my friends after a hard day's work in the workshop.

I live in the picturesque town of Knaresborough in North Yorkshire, United Kingdom. This is an ancient town dating back to before 1066, complete with a ruined castle and a famous viaduct (see below) over the river Nidd on which the town stands. Knaresborough is also well known for its historical resident Mother Shipton, and for its world-famous annual Bed Race. Knaresborough also hosts its own Festival of Visual Arts (FEVA) each year. One more thing...

I would wholeheartedly recommend the products of my artist brother Chris Sparrow, who produces the most exceptional miniature works of art. Here are some examples.

His works are bespoke one-off pieces, working to commisions, and so those items displayed may not be still available. I think you will agree they complement perfectly my miniature silverware and would look fantastic hung from your dolls house walls.

Chris would welcome requests for commisioned work. You can contact Chris to discuss your requirements on the following UK number 0191 285 0219 or +44 191 285 0219 if dialling from outside the UK.

See more of Chris' work on his own page on my website HERE
